I snagged the original 1965 paperback for free!

Plot: an American couple settle into a remote Iraqi village in 1957. The newlyweds are offered a hut to live in by the Sheik of the local tribe. The couple accepts, so as not to be offensive, and are thereby ;Guests of the Sheik;.

The husband, an anthropologist, encourages his wife to write about her experiences since the women are so excluded that very little is known about their true feminine culture.

The wife befriends some of the women and ends up with a compelling look into Iraqi culture. It is a fascinating read.
